Celebration months

So I've noticed that BB is good about celebrating specific months and what it represents, of course, this month being Pride month.

I love this! BUT I've also noticed that it's not celebrating all of them. It seems very incongruent- I've never seen anything celebrating Native American Heritage Month, and I'm sure there are others that I am missing, this is just the one I've noticed. If I missed that, my apologies.

But if I didn't miss it, it is a glaring omission, and one that need to be addressed. If we're going to celebrate all people, then we need to celebrate ALL people.

Just my opinion.

I agree, but I think unfortunately a person has to be careful that others don't automatically equate the sentiment of equal representation as prejudice. Such a loaded topic in our country.

I've seen a number of university websites that provide a calendar of their cultural heritage months/days. Some of the more common ones that BB hasn't highlighted are:

    • Hispanic heritage (September)
    • Native Americans: Indigenous People's Day (October) or Native American Heritage Month (November)
    • Chinese/Asians: Asian Pacific Islander Month (May)
    • Disabled people: World Mental Health Day (November) or "Disability Independence Day" (July), or International Day for People with Disability (December), or Autism Day (April)
    • Jewish-Americans: Holocaust Day (January) or Jewish American Heritage Month (May)
    • Arab-Americans (April)
    • Irish-American Heritage Month (March)

I think Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander was remembered in May on the Community News blog - I dimly remember thinking that I'm not Asian American because I'm British ?!

Nice! That one's my slip then, for missing it! Apologies, BB. ?
