@Austen Brown I like to walk around the neighborhood and see all the lights. I also like the concerts on TV.

I like starting on the Christmas food on the first Sunday of Advent/1st December (whichever is earlier) so I get to taste everything :D

This year I have an advent calendar with a little pot of jam behind each door, so I've been enjoying a lot of jam and toast.

  • @Austen Brown spend time with my family! Also, eat. Yummy foods!

  • Looking at decorations and lights, baking cookies, and ugly sweaters. Under the guilty pleasure category are the Hallmark holiday movies (please tell me I'm not alone here).

Time with family is always number one! But second up are board games. Ever since I was little, we always saved the long board games (like Monopoly, Axis & Allies … you know, the ones that take 4-6 hours!) just for holidays. We'd stay up late, eat popcorn, drink sodas, and play games. Special times! Now I pass the tradition on to my own kiddos. ?

  • @Faith Murray the board games - a large puzzle. Someone always got a puzzle and after the big meal, the dining table was taken over and everyone worked on the puzzle for the next day or two.

  • @Austen Brown - Hallmark movies. I thought I would miss out this year without cable, but Peacock streaming Hallmark has saved the day. One of my DIL stated a nice tradition with her kids. Instead of an Advent Calendar, it is 24 days of a new book. Each night one of the kids picks a wrapped book for the evening story time :)

  • Seeing family. My adult children have all moved out of state and the holidays are the only time we all get together.

  • @Austen Brown The way my grandson's eyes light up when he sees Christmas decorations beginning to appear in the house. He's 5, so, he is really excited and thinks Christmas is a long way off.

@Austen Brown the music! I play it all day from the day after Thanksgiving until New Year's.

  • @Austen Brown The lights and decorations at the mall. It's the one time of year I actually venture to the mall. Something about it is very warm and nostalgic for me, in a way that's hard to describe. Just feels like a special thing.

  • @Austen Brown I live within driving distance of an entire neighborhood of over-the-top (IMO) decorations. For anyone living in or visiting the NY tri-state area, it is a fun outing. Details here:

Lauren, wow! That sure does beat out anything around our neck of the woods! You couldn't just drive by that, you'd have to stop and linger just to take it all in. ?

  • @Austen Brown The thing I'm most looking forward to is seeing friends and family. The second most exciting thing about this time of year is that my husband, son and I have started taking a holiday trip each year before school starts in January. This year it's to New Orleans! Hope everyone has a great holiday season!

  • It's a hard time of year for me emotionally, so I don't do much. My favorite these days is to go out to see lights with or without other family/friends.
