@Crystal Bruce So my family has now gotten into the tradition of a main family vacation with our huge group at the beach and then at the end of the summer a trip to the mountains with only about half of us. Both are so different but both are fantastic

@Crystal Bruce, I love being near any water. I grew up on the Mississippi River (Iowa) and had a lot of lake adventures as a child, but living in the desert for many years means being near water is a huge treat!

@Bobby Steurer do it right and come to Washington! We have the best mountains (sorry, it's true). I recommend Lake Cushman for the serious hiker/camper (try hiking Mt Ellinor! even a heights fearing weenie like me enjoyed it), Crescent Lake for the alpine lake enjoyer (additionally, visit our rainforest!), or Leavenworth if you just want to observe some mountains while you enjoy a Bavarian themed town (?) with a great summer theatre or a wonderful winter festival.

LOVE Leavenworth! And I miss Washington - I lived in Edmonds near the Sound and going down to the waterfront to walk was one of my favorite things.

@Crystal Bruce - I live in the Berkshires of Massachusetts so have small mountains all the time. I grew up on the coast of Maine and miss the ocean! Would love to go to the beach (ocean) or if not that, a lake would do!!!

@Crystal Bruce definitely the mountains! My roots are in the Smokey and Blue Ridge mountains. I have gotten better about enjoying the beach but would take a mountain stream or lake over the beach for sure.

@Crystal Bruce, definitely mountains! I've made my bucketlist of seeing the mountains in Colorado and Tennessee. But beaches are kind of low down on my list – first I want to visit the Great Lakes, Yellowstone, and the giant sequoia trees in California. Maybe it's because I'm not a very good swimmer, and I can sunburn in March… probably not well suited for the beach!

@Crystal Bruce Ocean all the way if I have to pick one, though I do enjoy mountains as well. Acadia National Park is a trifecta of island, ocean, and mountain!
