Institutional Commitment

Many of our FA packages include an institutional commitment amount that is later replaced with scholarship funds. In the initial FA package, this amount displays to the student as “College Grant.” (Essentially, it is displaying as a single awarded “scholarship” with a note that all or part of this amount may later be replaced with donor scholarships.) This institutional commitment amount is going to BAM in our import file. As we award institutional commitment replacement scholarships, Unmet Institutional Commitment and Met Institutional Commitment fields will update accordingly.

The disbursement export will update our SIS (Banner) with the BAM scholarship awards. But we are not sure how to reduce or handle the institutional commitment amount in our SIS, since it was originally part of the FA award. (Account and billing statement information comes out of the SIS.)

Has anyone else dealt with this issue, have a suggestion or an idea of another way to approach this dilemma? Thanks.

    At Ramapo College, we have a very similar situation in which insitutional awards may be funded through Foundation scholarships. We're very new to BAM and currently only utilizing it for our Foundation scholarships, not our intistutional awards yet. Do you use BAM for both types of awards, and if so, how are the incoming students getting added into BAM?
