Let's Talk Podcasts!
What's your favorite work-related podcast?
What's your favorite non-work related podcast?
I have a couple that tend to lean history/mystery! I really love Conspiracy Theories, Stuff They Don't Want You to Know, and for the spooky season, I love Ghosts in the Burbs.

I really love The British History podcast - it goes into a lot of details and the episodes just the right length so that I can listen to a whole one in one go.

@Crystal Bruce I don't do any work-related pods, but some fun ones I like are Goosebuds (NSFW), The Big Flop (semi-NSFW), NYT's Hard Fork (SFW). I added Stuff They Don't Want You to Know to my rotation, Crystal. Fixing to check it out.

I'm just not an auditory person - I have to read my entertainment! I never listen to news videos, podcasts, or audio books because then I am slowed down to the pace of the speaker. I prefer to read my media so that I can get my info more quickly. If I'm needing noise while running or cooking, I just play music.1 -
@Crystal Bruce, like @Bobby Steurer, I don't listen to any work-related podcasts (unless someone I work with is being interviewed for one!).
My favorite is Spotless, which is a podcast about cleaning
I also enjoy Smartless and Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend. I am also a big audiobook listener, so while I have a lot of podcasts lined up, if I'm in the middle of a good book (or on a time crunch because I've borrowed it from the library!), then they tend to pile up.

@Crystal Bruce I've never been much into podcasts either. After seeing this, though, I may have to check out a few! Mostly I read a lot of fiction (curse Kindle Unlimited LOL) and love listening to music.

@Crystal Bruce I rarely listen to work related podcasts. I like to listen to true crime podcasts like Crime Junkies and The Deck. I also like to listen to Your Mama's Kitchen and Intentionally Overheard with Robert Ginyard.

@Crystal Bruce thanks for the ideas everyone! I don't listen to podcasts but I think I will start now!

I have a couple that tend to lean history/mystery! I really love Conspiracy Theories, Stuff They Don't Want You to Know, and for the spooky season, I love Ghosts in the Burbs.
My favorite non-work podcast is “On Fire with Jeff Probst” because I am a huge Survivor junkie. Any of the Survivor podcasts tickle me. Someday I'll apply and be miserable on the island myself someday.

@Crystal Bruce Like others, I listen to a lot of true crime! My coworker got me into Crime Junkies and Murder With My Husband, and I was also big on National Park After Dark for awhile.
I'm trying to branch out a bit more and have really enjoyed listening to podcasts about some of my favorite shows, like The Office Ladies, Pod Meets World, and Parks and Recollection, and I'm following the series about the wives of Henry VIII on Even The Royals.
Funnily enough, the only time I listen to podcasts is when I'm at work. For whatever reason, my attention span for them completely goes away once I get in the car and head home!

@Crystal Bruce, My favorite work related podcast is Successful Nonprofits. I also like Ted Talks Daily.

@Crystal Bruce The School of Greatness is inspiring. He explores qualities that make people successful. For fun, I listen to Hidden Brain.

@Crystal Bruce I like listening to any podcast on NPR. They have so many to choose from

@Crystal Bruce For work-related content, I’m a fan of "Museum Archipelago." It offers bite-sized insights into the evolving world of museums, perfect for professionals in the field. It’s a great way to stay updated on trends and hear from a diverse array of voices.
For non-work-related content, "Reply All" is a favorite. It dives into interesting and often quirky internet-related stories, blending humor and investigative journalism in a way that’s always engaging.

I get a lot out of Women at Work, produced by the Harvard Business Review. Sometimes the topics aren't necessarily relevant to me on paper, but I always get something useful out of the discussions anyway.
A newer podcast that I really enjoy (I'm a huge tennis fan) is Tennis Insider Club. One of the hosts, Caroline Garcia, is a top 30 ranked player. Each episode they interview a different player (a mixture of former and active), which leads to some really interesting insights and “peeking behind the curtain” of life on the professional tennis tour.

honestly I don't listen to work related podcasts outside of work- I keep that all separate. But on my way to work I listen to a couple regularly and my favorites that are work-adjacent are TBOY (The Best One Yet) it has business insights and the hosts are really fun. And I often listen to The Journal if the story is of interest to me.
my favorite non-work pod is Old Gods of Appalachia.

@Crystal Bruce I love a good podcast!
I would be remiss if i didn't plug the podcast produced by my org for my work-related podcast: Joy Outside
My most listened podcasts that I love for a long drive or listening on a walk are:
Ooligies - science/comedy a new oology discussed with an expert oologist each week
Golden State Naturalist - described as ‘podcast about asking questions and experiencing wonder.’ the host visits various locations in California and asks experts questions
Financial Feminist - exactly what it sounds like, finance educationDungeons and Daddies- Laugh out loud Dungeons & Dragons play through pod

@Crystal Bruce love this idea! Like many I don't always listen to work-related podcasts outside work but I find for the commute to work, it sometimes helps me get into a frame of mind for a project. It varies by topic and current interest and I have listened to - Nonprofit Hub Radio, Marketing Made Simple, The Creative Penn Podcast for Writers, The Engage Podcast
For fun, friends directed me to Wiser than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus (CAN'T WAIT for season 3), Next Question with Katie Couric, Am I Doing It Wrong, Professional Book Nerds
Some that might cross-over into both worlds: Dare to Lead with Brene Brown, The Game of Teams

@Crystal Bruce omg I just wrote a beautiful list and then lost it as I was about to post!
Here goes - for take two that won't be nearly as fancy . . . I have listened to many listed - Engage, Oologies, Wiser than Me are my favorite among those. Here are ones I really enjoy that haven't been listed below (that I noticed)
For Work
Work Appropriate - with Anne Helen Petersen (Fun fact she taught at Putney for a year!) It has ended and is still great for office dilemmas
The Mel Robins Podcast - great stuff in here for work and personal life
For the rest of life. . .
We Can Do Hard Things* - Glennon Doyle, Abby Wambach, and Amanda Doyle
Good Inside with Dr. Becky - great parenting and reparenting (often a guest on the above podcast)
Levar Burton Reads* - Makes the Trekkie in me very happy
Unsung Hero - Short and makes me feel all the feels
Murder on Sex Island - 12 episodes. Ridiculous. Love the narration. What would season 2 be like if they had one
Nothing Much Happens Stories for Sleep and Relaxation - Will I ever know how one ends?
*Coincidentally both of these have former bbcon keynote speakers!
Ok I might like how the fast version came out better - going to post now before I lose it again!

I don't listen to any podcast work-related.
Non-work related: The Saint of the Day Podcast and if my daughter is in the car she will have me listen to Crime Junkies1 -
@Crystal Bruce
The Leader Assistant hosted by Jeremy Burrows is great for work and Bialik Breakdown is my favorite non work related!1 -
@Crystal Bruce
I don't listen to many work related podcasts but definitely see some I should start listening too. For non-work related I love Smartless, which is always good for some laughs. Calm Down with Erin and Charissa and a local podcast of a now retired radio DJ where she talks about the business and has local guests on.1 -
@Crystal Bruce I love the Sirius podcast of “Baroque and Beyond” - great music to listen to during work or when relaxing. Music doesn't get much better than this!
2 -
@Crystal Bruce
Currently: Untapped Philanthropy.2 -
@Crystal Bruce I love podcasts! I don't listen to any work-related ones but for non-work some favourites are:
Criminal with Phoebe Judge - fascinating true crime stories, told with great empathy, Phoebe is an amazing presenter
Uncanny Japan with Thersa Matsuura - stories of Japanese folklore and legends and unusual customs
99% Invisible - podcast about design in all its forms
Serial - you've probably all heard of this one, the current season about Guantanamo is fascinating although quite disturbing
There are many more but I don't have time to type them all out right now

@Crystal Bruce
The History Chicks podcast is great!1 -
@Reuben Schmitz I had a professor who offered exam study hours and his study session included Baroque music playing in the background. His rationale was that studies show it helps knowledge retention. I guess he was right.
