@Crystal Bruce I did a summer internship at a non-profit and realized for the first time how big of an impact the “Philanthropy” team has. And that opened a whole new world for me.

@Crystal Bruce, I realized during my junior year of college, pursuing my music degree, that I didn't think I was good enough to become a professional musician but still wanted to be involved with the arts somehow. I found a flyer taped to the wall in the fine arts center of my school advertising Arts Management certificates and pounced on them. Two internships later, I decided that my new goal would be to become the Executive Director of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, the local orchestra in western Massachusetts. Being a part of something greater than myself inspired me to look for jobs in the nonprofit field. I've never looked back. Best decision I've ever made.

A phone call from a friend is what led me to the Foundation I currently work at. I was working as a Financial Planning assistant when she reached out to see if I knew anyone who would be interested in the job opening. Almost 5 years later and here I am. Our Mission is to enhance the Medical Center's financial resources, while building awareness, to help provide excellent health care services to all members of the community.2 -
Like many I'm sure, after college I didn't have a clear direction or know what I wanted to do career-wise. I had volunteered with the organization several years prior, never thinking about it becoming my full-time job. One day I happened to be in the right place at the right time and ran into an acquaintance who worked there and encouraged me to apply for an open position.

I fell into philanthropy. I worked at ING for over 10 years and the company moved to North Dakota. I went to North Dakota for a year and came home. I'm a Atlanta girl through and through
I went to a temp agency for work and landed a job at CFGA. I love people and numbers so processing grants was a great fit for me! After ten years with CFGA, I started working at The Imlay Foundation. The Imlay Foundation is a wonderful peaceful place to work, and I enjoy coming into work every day! 1 -

How wonderful Sara!0 -
@Crystal Bruce I think my desire to give back began with my church many years ago. We started a project wherein we gave away Thanksgiving meals to any family that wanted to come pick one up. I volunteered and met so many wonderful people, and it opened my eyes to the level of needs in society. I fell into this job, again through my faith because it's a faith based organization. I have been amazed to find that although there is much need in the world, there are also many organizations out there trying to meet the needs. It has really bolstered my faith in humanity as well as my personal faith.

@Crystal Bruce I didn't know I had an affection for social impact nonprofit work until I worked on a capital campaign at my alma mater. I got hooked on all of the planning and strategy around fundraising. Post-campaign I took all of my knowledge to a local nonprofit and put it to work. A few career stops and 23 years later….

My start in NPOs started by chance with my consulting capstone project being for a non-profit. Since then I have decided to specialize in this field and continue doing work that makes a difference in the world around me.0 -
@Crystal Bruce My first corporate experience after college was as an Editorial Coordinator at a scientific publisher. I taught myself how to use Access, where I managed submissions to academic journals. The editor dubbed me the “Mistress of Databases" because of my work in that area. After moving beyond publishing and continuing to innovate with database work in other fields, I realized that I wanted a role contributing to social good and turned to nonprofits. Working as a donor database manager was the perfect fit for me. The rest is history!

@Crystal Bruce I started by working with psychologically diagnosed children; after working in the field at diverse locations I made the determination the field was not appropriately equipped for the data analysis that was being advertised. This caused me to transition to a more objective discipline that would allow me to continue my social good work with purpose and professionalism.

@Crystal Bruce My first volunteer effort (non-political campaigns) was to help the Chicago Peace Museum set up their sound for their “Give Peace a Chance" exhibit. We had four sources of music throughout the museum, playing music from both World War years, the Vietnam War era, and after. The show featured an amazing collection of posters, letters, and documents exploring the hope for peace in our world. My favorite part was getting to meet Yoko Ono who donated one of John Lennon's guitars for the exhibit.

@Crystal Bruce I was looking for a different direction almost five years ago and there just happened to be an opening at our daughter's school in their Advancement Department. Already having developed an affinity for working in databases I applied and was hired. That position introduced me to all things Blackbaud and led me to look for an RE-specific position when I had to leave that org last year.
