Scheduling - K12 vs third party

I have been asked to look into scheduling for our school to replace/improve pretty much manual (Excel) scheduling process. Someone suggested using a third party scheduling software and importing it (probably manually) back to K12.

I couldn't get a clear answer why K12 scheduling wasn't used and at this point I need more information. It looks logical to me to use K12 scheduler.

I will appreciate any experience (good and bad), insight, suggestions.

Thank you,

@Zoran Prastalo @Crystal Bruce I think this may belong in the Education Management forum rather than Altru?

  • @Zoran Prastalo discussion moved to K-12 Education solutions. Thanks!

  • @Zoran Prastalo We use Cognito Forms to collect requests from students and then we import them into Education Management. I initially looked into having the students request in the SIS but it did not allow for all the logic needed. We have been doing it this way for a few years now and it works well. We also run the scheduler and it does a decent job. For us, we have very specific things that makes it more difficult for the scheduler. For instance, we have lots of teachers that can only teach at a certain time and you can set that up on their record but it does make it more challenging. We also try to give all 1100+ students the courses they requested. For those who are not as specific as we are, I think the scheduler would work better. We still use it to get between 50-75% and then adjust the rest manually. I hope that helps. Just let me know if you have any questions.
