Two coworkers are grabbing a coffee in the breakroom when their boss enters and posts a notice on the announcements board: “First person on the team to complete 18 hours of Raiser’s Edge NXT database training and pass the corresponding two certifications gets a raise.”

The two coworkers are excited about the possibility of the raise but are confused by the contest. They ask their boss why professional development entities like training and certification have become a competition.
