What is your favorite part of your job?

What's the thing that motivates you in the morning? The thing you look forward to?

For me, it's solving puzzles. Nothing makes me happier than finding a solution to a problem, whether that be streamlining a process, setting a data standard, or developing a new automation.

What about you?

Oh @Austen Brown I love all those things. I also really like completing things. I feel like I don't do that enough and it is so satisfying and I always feel 10 lbs lighter!

I love answering questions with data. At my old org I had so much satisfaction building new dashboards to show data in new ways.

  • Seeing great conversations like these in the community!

  • Love being told that I am "the chaos coordinator" and creating an achievable path towards clarity with actionable steps with staff assignments! Sometimes... it doesn't always happen smoothly, or in the timeline I create in my head, but when it does happen…it's magical.

    Build to the spec…
on things that RE NXT can't do natively or doesn't do it well enough.

  • I love when my development officer asks about a complex gift for a long-time donor that came in and I can give them a complete query that I had created that I can export to create a pivot table to be given to the donor.

My favourite thing is the grateful face I get when I help someone with a list or a task they were struggling with, and I can offer a solution. Makes all the challenging days worth it!

Creating workflows with staff and seeing their long-term payoff. Also, the puzzle-solving element is cool, too. Very satisfying when you have the "a-ha!" moment.

I like essentially doing the same thing day after day but my doing that helps the people we support.

I too like the puzzle solving aspect of my job. I also like that I can be a key part of our team while staying in the background (the man behind the curtain). I also love when my team sometimes refers to the software as, "Roger's Edge" 😁

Figuring out how to pull a complex data pull for a team member and just doing my job so that development staff will be successful in theirs > end goal funds for scholarships, programs, buildings…

  • If I may hijack this thread to recommend my newest TV show binge: Astrid. It is French language with English subtitles, and is about a woman who works in the Criminal Records office of the Paris police department who can't resist a puzzle and solving it. 🙂

@Lauren Henderson - Of course! Thanks for the recommendation!

  • The strategy and planning for new beginnings is always what gets me going, even if a small new project or report. I love the thought process that goes into discovering new outcomes or more efficient ways to enhance donor engagement and make our jobs easier. Along with that comes finding new tips and tricks on how to utilize the database faster and easier, always a joy when a new tip pops up!

  • Me too! A good puzzle, “why isn’t this showing up correct?”, “why are these numbers different?” “How can I do xyz?” “Why am i not seeing this?”. Etc

And projects. Mostly organizing projects. Or figuring out how to build a fancy projects.

I love knowing every day I am helping to make a difference in the community. And having a great conversation with community leaders while helping to make sure they receive funding.

  • I love creating queries and exports. But sometimes it can be quite challenging when trying to find the correct criteria.
