Here are the latest changes in Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT for October 21, 2025.
Receipt updates (for those in Canada)
Updates have been made to receipts layouts to comply with Canadian receipting standards requirements. Some fields on the receipt have been reordered and others were added to the receipt area.
💡Tip: To receive the latest updates on receipts that have already been generated, from the receipt series, find the gift and select Replace receipt from its ellipses menu.

Yay for Canada. But this is it for updates this week??

Hi Lindsey,
While we Canadians appreciate the attempt to stay compliant, there are a few issues. First off, the address is now at the top left, and in the receipt body, which is repetitive. The top left address can be removed and is still CRA compliant. Second, this change has completely messed up the spacing on receipts, leaving many peoples receipts falling onto two pages.
Can you address any of these issues?
Thanks!
Aldera

@Aldera Chisholm I have seen this feedback coming in so far this week. I wanted to share a little but about how we got to the current setup.
The receipt is made up of 2 sections, the message section and the receipt section. We previously only had the address in the message section of the full receipt. We worked with a 3rd party CRA compliance expert and addressed items that were labeled incorrectly and items that were missing from the receipt section of the document. All of our updates were for the receipt section of the document to ensure compliance. Address is a required piece of information needed in the receipt section so we added it there, it remained untouched in the message section. Any other field that was added, was done so for compliance reasons. Fund was part of our receipt details and although it was not needed for compliance, we kept it unchanged on the receipt.
These changes did make the full document longer and it has been spilling over into 2 pages on some occasions. We have plans to page break the receipt section from the message portion into 2 pages in an effort to keep things cleaner.
The receipt area is fully compliant and any data in the message section was not altered for this project which is why things may be in 2 spots. I really thought we would be fine with the address in the message section but the response was that I had to be in the receipt section. Our goal was compliance first and foremost and we can work on dialing in the overall formatting from here.
More customizations and flexibility are what everyone has been after and now that we have these compliance updates out, we can focus on that next phase.

Can we get rid of the generic message at the bottom? On behalf of our entire organization, thank you for your generous gift. With that removed and less lines for the thank you that is optional at the top, perhaps this would get us back to one page

Thanks for the context Anthony - I appreciate your detailed response. If we can find a way to tweak to get it down to one page, that would be ideal, as I'm being hit with a lot of concerns from clients I work with on that piece - they are getting complaints from donors.

@Aldera Chisholm we had the same issue, we managed to make the authorized signature smaller yet not too small that you can't read it and was able to get it down to one page. Are signature is 106px x 46px, hope it helps!

That is really great to know, thank you!!

Hi Anthony, there is a significant compliance issue with these receipts outside of design concerns.
Can you confirm how the "Donated By" Name is chosen? It appears to be based on Individual display name, which is NOT CRA compliant. It must be the donors "full name, including middle initial".
There are many situations where the display name should not be the receipt name.
- Schools often want the Grad year in the display name. This is not a valid receipt name.
- Chinese-Canadian families may have a legal name, which should be on their receipt, and a very different "western style" preferred name for communication. Ye Chan may want to be called Eva, but is not the name that should be on receipts.
When we are audited and found to be non-compliant, we are subject to a 5% penalty based on the amount of receipt issued. Both of these examples would be considered non-compliance based on CRA communications.

@anthony gallo
Unfortunately, the receipt is still not CRA compliant…its missing Eligible Amount.
Here is a link for the Blackbaud people and your compliance consultant - see Sample 1:

@Dwayne Dipasquale we have a bug for this and we are working on it. It looks like that field only shows when there is an advantage (benefit) and it should show all the time.

@Dwayne Dipasquale this fix for this is out and all Canadian receipts should see that eligible amount field at all times. We had a conditional check for that field that should have been overridden for Canada and it is now. That field will show even if a gift does not have any benefits/advantages as expected.
