Prospect Researcher - Curry College in Milton, MA

The Prospect Researcher's primary area of responsibility is managing and performing all data and report functions related to prospect research and management and maintaining the integrity of said data.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage and perform all prospect research data functions, including list acquisition, wealth screenings, formatting, and uploading electronic screenings using iWave or applicable data-mining service. Review and validate data for accuracy and report generation;
  • Manage and monitor frontline fundraisers portfolio. Identify and add new prospects for portfolio assignments made in concert with VP of Institutional Advancement. Assess prospects quarterly. Monitor, update, and record prospect assignments in Blackbaud;
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for the prospect research program;
  • Update and maintain non-gift information on prospects and donors in the Blackbaud database, including relevant news, financial, and biographical information, and notifying staff of key updates;
  • Monitor news articles, industry, online, and print resources daily to identify information/articles relevant to the Department's interests and distribute to staff;
  • Research, identify and provide internal ratings and projections on donor/ prospects' capacity and interest in supporting Curry using public biographical and financial information from print and electronic resources;
  • Prepare confidential research reports to support gift officer assignments and cultivation strategies of new and existing individual, corporate, and foundation prospects. Conduct prospect review meetings and/or prospect assignments with staff as requested;
  • Provide updated research and analysis on an ongoing basis;
  • Identify and review new products, methodologies, online databases, and software that will further enhance the Department's ability to advance its mission;
  • Maintain and develop professional relationships with local prospect researchers and national and local associations. Collaborate with internal stakeholders - including Information Technology, Admissions, Student Affairs, etc. - to obtain and update relevant prospect information;
  • Demonstrated knowledge about or the ability to understand and implement ethical and confidential research practices, including those set forth by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA); the association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP); and/or the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE);
  • Perform proactive customer service with a high level of diplomacy, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required and higher education experience preferred with a minimum of two years experience in prospect/development research. Equivalent professional experience in an analytical, research, or information specialist role within an academic, nonprofit, corporate, or consulting environment will be considered.
  • Strong analytical skills, including analyzing and interpreting business and financial data and information.
  • Ability to compose concise research documents with attention to accuracy to support the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship process of donor/prospects.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; an ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, financial reports, procedures, government regulations, and legal documents; an ability to effectively present information and positively respond to questions from Curry leadership.
  • Extensive computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); experience with internet applications such as iWave, Guidestar, Dun & Bradstreet, Lexis Nexis, Foundation Center, Alumni Finder, and other wealth screening tools; and the ability to learn new applications quickly including organization-wide information and department-specific software, such as Blackbaud, Salesforce, and Banner.
