Chief Development Officer- Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington and Alaska

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

Strategy, Vision, and Leadership

• Work with the ED, Board, and staff to define the organization’s mission and direction
• Work with the Executive Leadership Team (Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operations Officer, and the ED) to identify funds needed, preferred funding targets, and approaches to design a development strategy
• Stay abreast of developments in philanthropy and fund development as well as the general fields of management and the nonprofit sector and inform the Executive Leadership Team and Resource Development Committee of trends, issues, problems, and activities to facilitate strategies
• Help develop a balanced funding mix of donor sources and solicitation programs tailored to the needs of the organization to attract, retain, and motivate donors and fundraising volunteers
• Establish performance measures, monitor results, and evaluate the effectiveness of fund development

Fund Development Leadership

• Oversee all fund development activities, manage day-to-day operations of the development function
• Research prospective donor sources and manage a portfolio of 75-100 strategic donors and prospects for significant engagement with the mission, work, and leadership of RMHC
• Develop an annual fundraising plan with targeted solicitations to meet or exceed the annual fundraising goal for the CDO portfolio, then plan and implement the programs
• Cultivate, steward, and maintain key long-term relationships with donors and prospects including volunteers; solicit charitable gifts
• Ensure sound fiscal operation of the development function, in coordination with the Chief Financial Officer, including timely, accurate and comprehensive development of contribution income and expense budgets, reporting, monitoring, and implementation

Program Development

• Design and implement cost-effective fund development, marketing, public relations, and communications programs, employing economy while maintaining an acceptable level of quality and solid return on investment
• Ensure proper fund development planning, including strategy identification, benchmarking, goal setting, and evaluation
• Design and implement cultivation, acknowledgment, and recognition programs

Team Development/Leadership

• Recruit, select, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all individuals who have the responsibility

• Mentor, empower, motivate, coach, and lead development team to achieve annual fundraising goals and priorities; manage and supervise two direct reports.

Primary Relationships

• Supervise the Senior Director of Development and the Communications Manager
• Coordinate externally with the Board, fundraising volunteers, donors, McDonald’s Owner Operators, and Seattle Children’s Hospital
• Focus on cultivation and deepening of connections with McDonald’s Owner Operators to optimize funding from McDonalds restaurants

Here’s what we’re looking for:

• Preferable: Bachelor’s degree and or other related field and/or a transferable skill set
• Minimum of 7 years in a philanthropy or development role with quantifiable, positive capital campaign results and successful fundraising from multiple donor channels
• Computer proficiency, including familiarity with all MS Office products and database software; advanced proficiency with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT required.
• Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) certification preferred
• Proven track record of achieving shared goals and successful execution of fund development efforts with multiple stakeholders and agendas, including cultivation, solicitation and closing of major gifts
• Experience working with a board of directors, committees, and volunteers
• Dependable with demonstrated strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
• Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising; able to convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials
• Strong influencing skills as evidenced by responding appropriately to key stakeholders, using convincing arguments, and creating win-win situations so others accept ideas and proposals
• Takes initiative to forge new donor relationships while actively seeking to deepen current ones

Strong History –A Home Away from Home: RMHC of Western Washington and Alaska was established in 1983 with its first House opening in Seattle and serving 22 families. Today we have three facilities in Seattle, including 10 Bone Marrow Transplant Apartments with a total of 105 rooms. Our Anchorage House in Alaska has 34 rooms and is nestled on the 6th floor of the Alaska Native Medical Center’s patient housing. Patients include expectant mothers with high-risk pregnancies as well as pediatric patients and their families.
