Better to delete or make inactive?

A staff member was recently let go. I made them inactive, but not sure if that means they can still access on their phone or is all access cut off? Is it better to delete them? If I delete them, does it make all of their historical information like actions disappear or do those still stay?

@Alicia Van Straten I make former staff inactive in RE NXT. In db view I change their name to have a Z at the front and move them to “Inactive" user group.

Deleting is not recommended. There are a number KB articles. Here's a few.

@JoAnn Strommen Thank you. It is a tense situation, and access was cut immediately so I just want to make sure that by making inactive that I'm doing the right thing and that indeed access is no longer available.

@JoAnn Strommen I too love the “z” at the beginning of the name trick. It does double-duty of shifting those folks to the bottom, but also a red flag if you are looking at active security groups and seeing a “z” in the names there.

@Aldera Chisholm It's wasn't an original idea. Something I saw posted in the forums years ago. Note, I actually use “ZZ” just incase I have user names like “Zarah” or “Zweitzig."

@JoAnn Strommen better hope you don't ever hire anyone who's named after Zzyzx then, otherwise you'll have to change it to ZZZ ?
