Emailing a subset of parents in a class

I'm looking for a solution on how to email a subset of parents in a certain class.

Currently we can either email the whole class, which then populates an email with all the parent email addresses in it. We can then remove anyone we don't want but it's very time consuming.

Alternatively we can look up each students information individually and copy and paste their parent emails in, also time consuming.

Essentially what I'm looking for is a type of checklist, where I can select a subset of students from a class and then select, email parents or primary contacts.

Can this feature be added or is there a work-around that I'm not aware of?

  • @Jon Hamlin This has been a big issue for us since we transitioned from Education Edge. We would really like to be able to select parents/students from a list within the class/group when sending an email.

There is an idea that you can vote on, I would love to see the email feature updated. Please vote for idea 2863.

Thanks for flagging this, I just voted! I'll keep my fingers crossed. It seems like such an oversight in the GUI.

  • Here's a direct link:

  • @Jon Hamlin If you click on the Group for the class, click Roster, then Run Roster/Student Reports. Select “Course Roster” and export to Excel. It shows the student, the Advisor, the parents and their emails. Then you can easily select the ones you want, sort and select the emails you need, copy and paste into your email.

Thanks for this suggestion - it certainly is a decent workaround. It would just be nice if this was a built-in option within the web interface as opposed to having to go to measures like this.

  • Back when we switched from Education Edge, this was also one of the things many of our teachers missed. Until Blackbaud implements something for this, my user script includes a feature that adds a checkbox to each student tile on class rosters and adds Selected Students, Selected Students' Parents, and Selected Students and Parents options to the Send Communication menu.

It only takes a few minutes to set up. More info here:
