Adding new defined Constituency

We want to add a constituency that dictates dollar value - We have the standard constituencies like “Loyal Donor” that were part of the package, and we have edited the value within that. We want to create more levels with difference values. When I go to the Code Table to create a new constituency, it does not allow me to set values. How do I do that?

  • Hi @Tracie Jacobs,

I think I have something similar, but I do it using a Smart Field, not a Constituency. Obviously, you wouldn't be able to see the Smart Field upon visiting a record like you would a Constituency. But you can still query on the Smart Field value and group people that way. And the Smart Field will update automatically, depending on the Schedule you create (so people will move in and out of the group on their own - unlike the Constituency, which, I think, you'd have to be keeping up-to-date manually). So I'm not sure if that would work for you.

I'll share the details of that smart field below. It is a Constituent Revenue Application Amounts smart field.

    On the General tab:
I established Value Groups to create those various giving levels or groups. (so if someone is above $300 then they're in group one and that has a Value Group Name, if they're above $500 then they're in the next group, etc.). And you could create queries / groups based on these Value Group Names.

    On the Parameters tab:

    • Values Section
      • Value to return is Total Application Amount
      • For is Constituent Revenue Recognition
    • Revenue Section
      • I do not check any Revenue Types. I use Transaction Type / Application. But that could vary depending on how you track things.
      • Recognition Credit Types need attention. This just depends on how you use Recognition Credit, but the nice part about using Recognition Credit is that it covers all the folks that get credit as opposed to going just by Revenue only (which would only show you the constituent that has the payment on their record.
      • Application Selection - I have a query to pulls all designations except the ones listed in the Criteria section of the query (so the query is like "designation name is not…" or “designation level two name does not include…”. That sort of thing. And then the remaining designations are all valid for the Smart Field.
    • Timeframe
      • Obviously, you'll set this to whatever time frame you are thinking. Just to share, the date range for our smart field is set to relative dates of the last 12 months. So this smart field shows us a person's giving over the last year. I also have smart fields that cover time periods for each calendar year (e.g. - 2022, 2021, 2020). This makes it easy to pull donors who gave above some given dollar amount in any of the three years or whatever.

I hope this helps or maybe gets you closer to what you are wanting to do. Feel free to reach out if you want to discuss or get more details.

    Chris ?
