One Roster API - Why is Parent Role now passed as of 11/8/2022

Can anyone confirm that Parents are now supposed to be exposed and included in the One Roster API? I am looking for Blackbaud documentation. This new addition is causing issues with our Classlink Roster Server. We are hitting thresholds because of the massive change in users and also there are issues with the way our Classlink is handling the new records. We have had to pause our Roster Server Synch until this can be resolved.

Was anyone else expecting this change mid-semester?

    I found this documentation:

    On 11/8 parents records began to be included. This change has impacted our Classlink Roster Server by hitting our thresholds due to unexpected large changes. We went from 2500 users to 5,000 users because we now have parents.

    @Amy Villa
    I can confirm that Parents are now included in the OneRoster results for Users. They have a role setting of “Parent” as specified in the OneRoster requirements. Additionally, the Agents collection is now returned in Student and User endpoints for records with a role of Student or Parent. The Agents collection holds the relationships of the user.

    This brings the BEM implementation of the OneRoster API more fully in compliance with their specifications. So, I can at least assure you the new Parent records are legitimate OneRoster user records.

    Is there a consequence to adjusting your thresholds in Classlink to account for the new records?

    Hi Stephen,

    Thank you for this information. There are some changing within Classlink as this new influx of users would cause our student accounts to be removed due to some cross-checking processes. I will set up a meeting with our Classlink CSM to work through our next steps.
