With the new year comes a sharper focus from Blackbaud on your ideas portal submissions.  Expect to see more transparency and responsiveness in the months ahead.  Read on to find out more and to learn how you can help.

  • Timely review and tagging of submissions.  Going forward, Blackbaud will commit to consistently review all new and active ideas.  If clarification on an item is needed, more information will be asked for.  Ideas will be tagged to let you know that a human being has reviewed them and that it is open for voting.  If an item makes the cut and is planned for an upcoming service pack, it will be tagged to let you know.  When the service pack ships, those items will be updated.  If an item does not meet overall strategic priorities we have a tag for that as well.  Some items in the reviewed and open state could and do remain in that state for long periods of time.  This is because there are so many ideas coming in from so many of you.  That is where the next bullet comes in.
  • Paring down the volume of historical items.  Because the ideas portal has been around a long time, the number of entries has vastly overtaken our ability to review and address them all.  There are some items that were created years ago and have seen few votes or other activity in some time.  There are others that also were created years ago but continue to accumulate votes.  Further, there are some that have been addressed by Blackbaud and are now features in the product, but still appear as if they are ideas that have not been looked at.  We want to begin to chip away at all of these as best we can, and we can use your help.  If there is an item you have authored, or perhaps voted on, that you have a strong current interest in, take a moment to add a comment to the item to let us know.  Items with recent comments and activity will rise to the top of our list for ongoing review.  Items that continue to sit stale with no activity will slowly be whittled out.  When we encounter duplicates we will take steps to combine those as well.
  • Providing code examples for suitable items.  Everyone knows that not every ideas portal submission is going to make it into the product.  Our product managers develop their roadmaps using many input sources.  In the past, we've been proud to introduce functionality and capabilities that came straight from ideas portal suggestions.  Going forward, we will experiment with providing Blackbaud-approved code samples when appropriate.  We can't help but notice that for the item with the most current votes, several of you have volunteered to provide your inhouse code to other customers that might be interested.  We love and encourage this collaboration.   .
Thank you!

I like it when updates like the 3rd bullet point are made, where changes reflect what users are doing. It validates community is thinking in the right direction.
Glad to see this happening

I know I've submitted enough complaints about this over they ears, and your first bullet point will address my biggest complaint.
So glad to see this! Thanks for sharing this information.
