Community Happenings: December 20 2017

Published
For this week’s Community Happenings, I decided to take a stab at a holiday classic with a Community twist and took some obvious liberties. Enjoy, favorite Community, and I’ll see you next week.

‘Twas the week before a certain jolly man’s holiday, when all through the Community
People were sharing knowledge as they came together in unity;
The posts were thought through and posted with care,
In hopes that sharing best practices would happen here and there.

The community members were huddled at their desks,
While changing the world is what they did best.
And community managers, in their cubes, and I being Shan,
Had just settled down to come up with 2018’s plan,

When out in the Community there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.
Away to the site I flew like a flash,
Logged into blackbaud.com and let out a gasp.

The sunshine glistening outside my window,
Made it hard to see as I sat in dreaded limbo,
When, what to my squinted eyes should appear,
But a whole slew of questions, even a few about Sphere.

With some Blackbaud knowledge, so lively and quick,
I knew it must be new members who had just gotten here with one click.
More rapid than a snowball fight champion with good aim,
They whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

“Now, Raiser’s Edge! now, Financial Edge! now K-12, and RE NXT!
On, Altru! on Luminate! on, Target Analytics and NetCommunity!
To the top of the discussion posts we shall go
Now answer away! Answer away! Answer them all, tally-ho!”

As quick as other members fingers could fly,
When met with questions, they knew what would apply,
So to the discussions they flew,
With a slew full of answers, and a bit of humor too.

And then, in a blink, I heard on the forums
The typing and answering of each question, with grace and decorum.
As I navigated the site, and was clicking around,
Down came our savvy super users with a bound.

What they were dressed in, from their head to their feet,
I won’t bother to guess because that’s kind of creepy;
A bundle of resources they had flung on their back;
And they smiled like tiny tots with a late-night snack.

Their eyes – how they gleamed! Their suggestions were varied!
“How about an event or webinar,” they said, “to keep thing merry?
Here’s a whole calendar – tied up with a bow,
For every single product, even those you don’t know.”

They smiled even bigger, without missing a beat,
As blog posts encircled their heads like a wreath;
“How about this knowledge that will make others jelly,
Make sure to subscribe to get news daily.

They were happy to share knowledge, helping others than themselves,
And I sighed with relief, a proud community manager myself;
For with a digital wink, and a quick connection invite,
They made new members feel full of warmth and light.

They spoke not a word, since this is an online Community,
But for everyone else, they left it filled with opportunity,
For each bit of knowledge they sow,
They knew the results would eventually show.

As I rejoined my team, I gave them a grateful & proud smile,
And let them know our Community would go the extra mile.
Learning, engaging, connecting, and so much more, even out of sight,
That we could bade them all a happy holiday and a much-deserved good night!

Happy Holidays Community!
