Best Practices For Sharing TLS Requirements With Your Donors

Published
On 15 March 2018 Blackbaud will be disabling TLS 1.0 across it's solutions in alignment with industry best practices set forth by the PCI Standards Council. We have previously blogged about how you will need to take action to prevent disruption in your Blackbaud solutions. You can find that information here.

TLS disablement will also impact your donors - and we want to help you communicate these changes with them. We've put together a best practices tip sheet to help you educate your donors about the TLS disablement. Here are some highlights:

Best practices for communicating TLS disablement with donors prior to March 15:
  • Keep messaging consistent and avoid unnecessary jargon
  • Leverage available communication channels
  • Be prepared to answer questions from donors
On or after March 15:
  • Ensure you have a communication plan in place for after the TLS disablement
  • Continue to leverage multi-channel approach in communicating with donors
You can find more details and sample communications in our complete best practices tip sheet.

Looking for help with your specific transaction pages? Here are knowledgebase articles, by solution, on how to alert visitors/donors their browser is incompatible with TLS 1.1 and 1.2: As you develop your TLS plan, your organization can get more information about TLS and the Blackbaud solutions that support TLS 1.1 here. You can also contact your Blackbaud sales representative for help selecting the best path for your organization or email customersupportassistants@blackbaud.com.

I have been asking Support about code that we can put on our donation forms that would display a message to our donors and got absolutely no help. I finally found this posting with links to the code. It would be nice if that information was more widely distributed.  Also, I tried using customersupportassistants@blackbaud.com and got very little assistance.
On this page - https://www.blackbaud.com/security/pci-compliance/upgrade/os-browsers - you do not list any Mac Operating Systems. Is this an oversight or are their issues that I am not aware of. And do you know if Chrome will work on Mobile? Thanks.

For onBoard, we use Authorize.Net for our payment gateway.  They have infomed us that they wil no longer support TLS1.0 as of 02/28/18.  What are Blackbaud's plans to handle this situation.  If Blackbaud doesn't convert until March 15, that leaves us with over two weeks of no functionality for reenrollments right at the busiest reenrollment time of the year.
Does this only affect donations or will it impact other webforms (membership, ticket sales...) as well?
Very helpful as we want to communicate this as easily and clearly as possible.  Thanks!
Todd, you will still need to alert donors to out-of-date browsers.
If Blackbaud processes payments for us, do we still need to be concerned with alerting donors to out-of-date browsers, or will that error message come up automatically?
