Acknowledging a gift that came via a check with only one donor name on it whereas it is a joint account in eTapestry

I would like to know what is the best practice for a non-profit in acknowledging a gift that came via a check with only one donor name on it whereas eTapestry shows a joint account for that donor. Would you use the envelope salutation for the tax receipt/acknowledgement letter to be the Joint Account Name/Name on the check? Who would get the recognition for that amount?

  • If it's a joint account you send the acknowledgment to the person who actually gave the gift. However in RE you soft credit the other person on the account.
