Discovery Opportunity: Grading Student Submitted Work

Hi Folks -

Over the last couple of months our team has been looking into ways to help teachers save time while doing their most used tasks. After talking to a good number of teachers and looking at the data it became very clear that creating assignments and grading assignments was an area of opportunity for us to flex our user experience muscles by creating an elevated workflow in both of these highly used areas.

I'll share a sneak peek into the creation process revamp we have coming down below, but we're looking for a little more feedback when it comes to actually grading student submitted work.

When it comes to overhauling the screen that teachers use when grading student work, we have a couple of goals:

• Reduce total click count to deliver students feedback on submitted work.
• Create a more ergonomic experience while annotating student submitted work while grading on smaller devices.
• Visually simplify the grading screen and showcase the most important information without needing to hunt for it.

Now, for a quick look at the revamped +Add assignment screen. I'll note that the screenshot shared below is a prototype, and is still subject to change as the building of this feature is just now being started by the team.

Similarly to the goals of the revamp of the assignment grading screen, the add experience is also aiming to create a more simplified experience for teachers.

A couple of enhancements to look forward to with this change:

• A consolidated view with all required fields in a similar location, so teachers have less scrolling to do while creating assignments.
• More customizable default settings in Preferences, that way teachers can ‘set and forget’ their most used field values when creating assignments.
• Lesser used fields being housed under an ‘Advance settings’ tab, to help alleviate some of the visual clutter.

We don't have a specific timeline to relay regarding when these experiences will be available in the product, but as we get further in the development process, you'll hear more about both of these experiences!
