PURPOSE OF POSITION: RCMA’s Development and Community Relations Department (DCR) is dedicated to strengthening relationships with key donors, community partners, and private institutions. The Development & Major Gifts Officer (DMGO) for the Central Florida region will play a pivotal role in advancing RCMA’s mission by growing financial support through major and planned gifts. This role is integral in securing resources for RCMA’s charter schools, capital campaigns, immigration programs, and other strategic priorities. The DMGO will collaborate with internal leadership and community stakeholders to enhance RCMA’s fundraising efforts in the region.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; however, other duties may be assigned:
- Goal Setting & Strategy
- Collaborates with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) to define annual goals, objectives, and metrics for RCMA’s development programs in Central Florida.
- Supports the development and execution of capital campaigns, major gifts, and planned giving strategies.
- Donor Relations & Stewardship
- Cultivates, stewards, and solicits major gifts from an assigned portfolio of approximately 50-75 principal-level donors in the Central Florida region.
- Maintains ongoing communication with donors and prospects through regular calls, meetings, and personalized stewardship activities.
- Implements customized strategies to ensure long-term donor engagement.
- Performance Metrics & Reporting
- Regularly updates donor portfolio information in Raiser’s Edge and reports performance metrics to leadership on a quarterly basis.
- Develops and tracks progress towards fundraising targets, collaborating with the CDO to assess performance.
- Collaboration with Regional Development Officers:
- Works closely with Regional Development Officers in South & North Florida to ensure consistent donor engagement practices across the state.
- Participates in bi-weekly meetings with the team to discuss progress and share best practices.
- Donor Proposals & Benefits:
- Develops tailored proposals, donor benefits, and related materials in partnership with the team.
- Coordinates logistics for donor meetings, including in-person and virtual engagements.
- Prospect Identification & Qualification
- Continuously identifies and qualifies new major gift prospects in partnership with RCMA staff, Board Members, and program leads.
- Develops strategies to engage potential donors who have the capacity and interest to support RCMA’s initiatives.
- Site Visits & Tours
- Leads and coordinates site visits, tours, and meetings with potential donors, ensuring that all logistics are handled smoothly.
- Captures donor insights and follows up promptly to deepen relationships.
- Development Committee Recruitment
- Recruits and engages volunteers to serve on a Central Florida development committee.
- Collaborates with committee members on donor cultivation strategies and fundraising initiatives.
- Executive Engagement
- Coordinates and schedules meetings for the Executive Director and Director of Development with major donor prospects.
- Supports relationship-building efforts and facilitates discovery meetings as needed.
- Community Engagement & Events
- Assists with the planning, coordination, and execution of RCMA events and activities, including evening and weekend events.
- Participates in community relations efforts to raise awareness of RCMA’s programs.
- On-Site Leadership Support
- Serves as the primary point of contact for RCMA’s assigned charter schools and centers in Central Florida.
- Supports donor leads, tours, and relationship-building initiatives at local schools and centers.
- Team Meetings & Leadership Collaboration
- Attends regularly scheduled Development and Communications team meetings, as well as other leadership gatherings, to stay aligned with organizational goals.
- Participates in development fundraisers, 3rd party opportunities, and other activities as needed.
MANDATORY QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty element satisfactorily while exercising independent judgment and discretion under the general supervision of the Chief Development Officer. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The individual must meet age, medical, moral, character, and any other requirements as defined by Florida Statutes.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years in nonprofit development or fundraising, with a focus on major gifts, capital campaigns, or planned to give. Experience with donor management software (e.g., Raiser’s Edge) is preferred.
