Accurate Records Don't Happen By Accident
Spanish is a wonderful language. Not just because of its rich history or global ubiquity, but also because of the way that it helps you explain accidents.
Say you just shattered your favorite coffee cup, watching helplessly as it fell to the floor. In English, you have no choice but to take full responsibility for this mishap, saying something like “I broke my cup.” Even though it was an accident, you’re always the one to blame!
Not so with Spanish. You’d say something like, “Se me rompió la taza,” which translates to “The cup broke on me.” There’s no blame for something you didn’t mean to do. It’s the kind of thing clumsy people like me can get behind!
