Toy (Chest) Story

When I was a kid, I kept everything I ever “bought” myself in a large storage chest in the corner of my bedroom. Inside that chest, you’d find a treasure trove of baseball cards, superhero and wrestling action figures, and just about every toy car made in the 1990s. I would play with these toys every day, but at night, they would return to the chest. Meanwhile, any toys that other people gave me stayed wherever there was space.

My parents never really understood why I did this. To be honest, I’m not quite sure I understood it at the time. It just seemed like a random thing to do. I didn’t have any siblings to worry about, so these precious items were never in danger. But it still became a habitual nightly ritual that I preformed after brushing my teeth and before I hopped into my racecar-shaped bed.

As an adult now, I think I understand why I was doing this: by keeping those things separate, I never lost them and I made them unique.

At any organization, you want to keep your vendors unique too. Luckily, in Financial Edge NXT vendor records are the storage chest for your vendors. Vendor records are where you keep your contacts, 1099 information, payment preferences, and maybe most importantly, where you can view all associated activity. You can store everything about vendors in one place without worrying about losing any of it.

Start building your vendor chest by learning how to get the most out of your vendor records with our new 90-minute course, Financial Edge NXT: Vendors. You’ll get a quick breakdown of the vendor-specific tiles in Financial Edge NXT and how best to utilize those tiles to streamline your Payables process.
