Position Type: Full-time, Salaried, Exempt
Location: Flexible (remote; strong preference for ET or CT time zone); Must be located and eligible to work in the U.S.
Salary Range: $108,000 - $125,000

About the Center for Disaster Philanthropy
CDP began in 2010 with the goal of pioneering the practice of strategic disaster philanthropy. Since then, it has grown in its ambition, envisioning a world where the impact of disasters is minimized through thoughtful, equitable and responsive recovery for all. CDP has an operating budget of close to $10 million in support of an overall budget of more than $40 million, and a team of more than 40 staff members working remotely across the U.S.
CDP is a trusted partner, expert and authoritative resource helping hundreds of individuals, foundations and corporations boost the impact of philanthropic giving in response to disaster and humanitarian crises by supporting equitable recovery and addressing root causes of vulnerabilities worldwide.
In 2024, CDP awarded approximately $16 million through 78 grants to grantee partners worldwide, demonstrated thought leadership through webinars, blog posts, featured speaking engagements and other events, and served 20+ philanthropic partners through consulting efforts.

Responsibilities & Duties
The director of annual giving is a strategic and operational leader responsible for designing, implementing and managing a comprehensive, multi-channel annual giving program. CDP is deepening and expanding its business model to ensure long-term sustainability and greater impact. This includes strengthening and diversifying four core revenue streams: general operating grants, programmatic initiatives and fund disbursement, earned income and advisory services, and coalitions that mobilize collective resources. This pivotal role drives the expansion of CDP’s base of individual donors and increases revenue to support the mission of mobilizing philanthropy for equitable disaster recovery.
The director is charged with data-driven execution and campaign innovation to meet ambitious revenue and donor acquisition goals. A core function is creating a robust major gifts pipeline through the identification, cultivation and stewardship of mid-level donors, ensuring a growing, sustainable base of philanthropic support for CDP's mission and strategic growth.
Primary responsibilities include:
Strategy and leadership
- Develop and manage a strategic, multi-channel annual giving plan that aligns with CDP’s significant organizational growth, strategic goals, and ambitious revenue and donor acquisition targets.
- Create a robust pipeline for major gifts by partnering with the director of donor engagement to effectively identify, cultivate and steward mid-level donors, moving them to higher giving levels.
- Serve as a thought partner to the vice president of development in shaping integrated fundraising strategies and campaign innovation.
- Prioritize organizational goals in alignment with departmental interests, ensuring annual giving efforts are integrated into the larger CDP mission.
Campaign management
- Design and execute creative, multi-channel and donor-centric campaigns (including email and social media), in collaboration with marketing and communications and other teams, to acquire and retain donors.
- Manage and coordinate a comprehensive solicitation calendar that aligns seamlessly with the organization’s communications and content priorities.
- Partner with the marketing and communications team to ensure a seamless donor experience.
- With support from the fund management (FMCB) and strategy (SI) teams, oversee the production of compelling, donor-centric content and mission-driven storytelling that reinforces CDP's unique value proposition and brand.
Data analytics and donor insights
- Lead data-informed decision-making by utilizing donor data (primarily within the CRM database, RENXT) to analyze giving patterns, segment audiences using behavioral/demographic data, and personalize solicitations for maximum effectiveness and retention.
- Establish key performance metrics and provide regular, insightful reports to leadership and the board to track progress, inform strategy adjustments and drive accountability.
- Ensure the integrity and accuracy of donor data across all systems.
Collaboration, engagement and equity
- Collaborate closely across CDP teams to ensure alignment between fundraising, marketing and mission delivery.
- Partner with the director of donor engagement to ensure all donor stewardship and recognition reflect a best-in-class experience, CDP’s values and equity commitments.
- Demonstrate cultural awareness and inclusive practices, ensuring donor communications and engagement strategies are accessible, authentic and reflect CDP’s commitment to racial and intersectional equity.
- Contribute to a culture of shared accountability and collective success.
Other duties as assigned
- Serve on committees, panels and task forces at CDP as appropriate and as available.
- Remain knowledgeable about the priorities of the organization and the development team, the strategic plan, and the field of disaster philanthropy.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the organization.
- Perform other duties and job-related tasks that may be assigned.
This position reports to the vice president of development and works in service of the whole organization.
Required qualifications and skills
- ≥ 10 years of relevant, progressive experience in leading annual giving efforts.
- Demonstrated success in managing and growing a comprehensive annual giving program (multi-channel, full donor lifecycle) to meet ambitious revenue and donor acquisition goals.
- Proven ability and practical experience using donor databases and fundraising software to manage data integrity, segment audiences and inform strategy.
- Direct experience in designing and executing multi-channel fundraising campaigns, including demonstrated proficiency in project management
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex issues and coordinate effectively with various stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to employ analytical and critical thinking with precise attention to detail and a strong sense of personal responsibility for work.
- Proven ability to work remotely with minimal direct supervision, including managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and within a dispersed team.
Preferred qualifications and skills
- Expertise with RENXT software.
- Experience with Mailchimp and other communication platforms.
- Expertise with annual giving stewardship campaigns.
- Experience leading moves management efforts for an organization.
