Environmentally Friendly Approaches

I would like to think about limiting the use of thermal receipts and tickets, which cannot be recycled in our area.

We currently have a POS in the lobby and tickets are issued and the visitor shows the tickets in the ticketed galleries for admission. We do not scan them. We often skip printing the receipt but since that skip print option is done manually, there are many times it is forgotten.

Welcome ideas and conversation about going green in the ticket world.

  • Hi Amy-

One thing we've started doing at our organization is emailing receipts. You can eliminate printing receipts all together and remove the 'Print Receipt' feature from Daily Sales by going to Tickets - Ticket Sales Setup - Sales Methods - Daily Sales - Itemized Receipt Options.

It can always be added back in if a guest wants a receipt, but if you're looking to eliminate thermal printers, this seems to be a good route to take. Hope this helps!
  • We moved away from tickets to stickers for admission a couple (?) years ago. It has its own environmental issues (smaller, but still trash). Many years ago, we did hand stamps which we won't return to for customer service and cleanliness issues.

One downside to consider with any switch from tickets is that you no longer have a ticket bar code to look up an order. The receipt becomes that much more critical for any refund or upgrade to a membership need later in the day. As Jess mentioned, email receipts can be a great option for this (but not all guests want to give an email).

I look forward to hearing what others have done!
  • The email receipt is a good idea but it would slow our box office down too much and we don't have the tech for the customer to enter the email themselves. Additionally, all Altru users (our shop and box office) would need to decide together to do this since this is global changes for Altru and not per user, if I am not mistaken.
