Glitches with Date of Birth field (primary contact)

Hello all

We are having some difficulties with a live application form & wonder if anyone can help?  Some applicants are finding that the Date of Birth field (Request primary contact: Date of birth) does not always work. The error message is Invalid date.   There are no restrictions on the field (eg, only a date after xx/xx/xxxx) or any other reason, and clearly many people have been successful as they have submitted applications.

We have suggested deleting whatever has been typed in so far & using the calendar button to input the date, but still no good.

Any clues?

Many thanks

Charlotte

  • Hi Charlotte,

Sounds like a clash of regional settings. Some applicants may be using a computer where the date format in their Regional Settings is not mm/dd/yyyy. This will affect only some dates.

For example, if the regional data format on my computer is dd/mm/yyyy and my birthday is on the 5th July 1962, then I might enter this as 05/07/1962. There will be no error and your form should interpret this date correctly. However, if my birthday is on the 13th July, and I attempted to follow the US date format, entering 07/13/1962 on my computer will result in an error because with my regional settings (dd/mm/yyyy) there is no 13th month.

In theory, if each user enters the date in the correct format for their computer's regional settings, all dates should be saved and interpreted correctly. Unfortunately many people are not aware of their computer's regional settings, something we have had to work through with many users over the years.

Happy to test your form if you send me a URL.

    Cheers

    Justin
