Book Recommendations?

I just finished reading Moby Dick. I was doing it for a book club and tonight is the last night. I also read and an abridged version of it to my son who is eight and we just finished that a few minutes ago and now I am embarking upon very what could be critical book for my next couple months on setting limits with your strong-willed child.


I'm also in the end of reading Becoming and then I get back into the Games of Thrones books. I also have the third book of the Wool series to finish. 

Just finished for a book club:  Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk - insane title huh?  Try the book!  It came out in like 2009 but didn't get translated for a bit.  Writer has won many prized.  I didn't get it at all...at first...and like ten pages in, restarted the book and had an absolute epiphany. Haha.  Very odd and funny.  


Recently was also read Trevor Noah's Born a Crime - an excellent book about his live in South Africa - post Apartheid.  I never watch him on the late night show, but he has had a very interesting life.  If you can, listen to the audio on this title.

I'm taking this time to gather up books around my house and read them. I've been meaning to read them for a while, but this way I read them and then pass them along to others. Lately it's been mysteries from the Cat Who series and books by JD Robb.

Dan Snyder‍ There are some great quarantine reading lists floating around the internet,which I will link below. Our Library staff have been doing FB Live readings from the following books everyday using FB groups, Moby Dick and Jane Eyre, and will be doing more as we just finished Jane Eyre! Check out your local Library on social and see if they are doing anything like this.


I have been re-reading the LOTR trilogy and the Unfinished Tales in addition to some other lighter reading, like Emma Straubs We're All Adults Here. Highly recommend them all and I second Education. Evicted is also a really great read, though maybe too on the nose right now with everything that is going on, if you're interested in non-fiction.

I'm a big murder mystery fan.  Anything Agatha Christie has written, with any main character, and Sue Grafton are my favorite authors.  Both have written many books!  Sue's series is best read in order if you can, in my opinion, but it's possible to skip a book and still catch up because she does a summary of past history in each book enough that you can still follow.

I have been living under a rock, apparently, and only just found out that Tor.com offers an ebook for free every month. If you're into sff, it's worth signing up for - serendipitously for me, I borrowed the Murderbot series by Martha Wells from the library last year and was trying to get on the waitlist to borrow them again, and they offered a copy of each of the 4 novellas in early May, right before the new novel became available to buy. (The series won a Hugo shortly after I read them the first time, so the waitlist has blossomed.)
