Community - access

hello - What role must one have to be able to get to/communicate in the Community and contribute to the New Enhancement area?  (My boss and I can get to it, as can someone in our Business Office, but how do I check if others can. I have tried impersonating the person, but when I click "Community" it bounces to me being in as me.)  Thanks!

  • Or is there a separate area for the Nurse's side of Blackbaud … for support, ideas, discussions??

The user community doesn't support impersonation. You can only be yourself in the community.  For example, you can't log in as yourself, impersonate your coworker, and post to the user community such that it would show up under your co-worker's name. Nor can you change your co-worker's avatar in the user community on their behalf. Nor can you modify their friend list.

The user community is sort of like a separate product/solution (a free one!). The roles and tasks that control security in Blackbaud Education management do not directly control what users can see and do in the user community. You can even choose to use different usernames and logins for them (although that would probably become confusing).

I don't think Raiser's Edge NXT has an impersonation option either. I believe impersonation is unique to Education Management.

To access the community, they need to login to https://community.blackbaud.com/ or https://community.blackbaud.com/products/highered/ or https://www.blackbaud.com/ as themselves using their Blackbaud ID. If they don't have a Blackbaud ID, they can create one to use for the community. They can then select which solutions interest them (such as Blackbaud Education Management for Higher Ed, Raiser's Edge NXT, SKY API developer community) to add those to their "my community" dashboard.

For example, you might be interested in SKY API for developers even if your school doesn't use the API yet. You can join that community to learn from peers who already use it.

Once logged in, they can navigate to the Ideas tab to post ideas, vote, comment, etc. If their username for Blackbaud ID is the same email as the one they use to log into Blackbaud Education Management or Raiser's Edge NXT, then when they start in those solutions and then navigate to the community, the Blackbaud ID authentication service will usually keep them logged in instead of prompting them to sign in again.

There is not a separate discussion area for nurses yet. If the number of nurse discussions grows, the community manager can add a subsection to this forum to keep it organized, but the nurse security role would not control who can access that discussion area. Non-nurses could post questions and answers in the community, such as to answer questions about school forms, athletics, reports, and more. Only nurses could see student medical data in Education Management though.

There are some invite-only sections of some communities which won't appear as options when community users select their solution interests. Typically those invite-only sections are for early adopter programs or advisory councils.
  • I wasn't looking to post as her; was just impersonating to see if she had access … because I couldn't remember how access was granted (by role?).  Thanks for clearing that up!

As far as the ideas/New Enhancement area -- can you give me the steps to find that tab, please?  I can't seem to find it; I just go to a previous post that has a link in it.  (And I'd like to send thr steps to our nurse to add her ideas.)

    Sure thing! Happy to help.

You can manually navigate to it via the Ideas tab towards the top of the community.

Or you can use this URL to directly link to the Ideas area for Higher Ed:
    https://community.blackbaud.com/products/higheredideas
  • One more thing … is the nurse also able to submit support requests?  How does she get to "Case Central," which is what I click when in Blackbaud?

An organization admin will need to invite the nurse to be a Blackbaud.com user for their organization. This KB has the steps for an org admin to invite a user:
    https://kb.blackbaud.com/articles/Article/46340

After that, if the nurse has access to any places in the user interface where they see then Help Panel then they can access Case Central via the help panel.

The help panel is ? button in the top right corner of Blackbaud Education Management, but it only appears on Core, Academics, Extracurricular, School Website, and Education screens. It does not appear on Faculty, Parent, Student, Alum, or Friend screens.

If the Nurse doesn't have access to any screens that have the help panel, then the nurse can get to Case Central at
https://www.blackbaud.com/training-support/support and then select Already a customer? or via the account menu in the top right corner of ww.blackbaud.com

  • She is a Blackbaud user …. I thought she'd be good to go; thanks for clarifying.  :)
