Appeal Tracking in Financial Edge

Does anyone track appeal codes for gift transactions in Financial Edge? We will be integrating our Raiser's Edge and Financial Edge databases soon and the question arose about being able to track Appeal income and expenses through Financial Edge. My initial reaction is that Appeals should only be tracked and reported on in Raiser's Edge but I am wondering if anyone else does this and if so, what is the best practice and what are some of the implications from having to add this data in Financial Edge.  Our consultant had this to say:

"You can link RE Appeal codes to FE via Transaction Codes. So if an appeal was linked to a gift than that flows into FE as a T-Code tagged into the transaction that posts over.

The part where I get confused is here, “RE NXT users see expenses of appeals, fundraisers, etc. housed in FE NXT I’m guessing what they may have meant/what they may have heard is that if we give those users rights to dashboards and FE NXT they can use the “development dashboard” in WebView. This would show balances by accounts using those Appeal T-Codes. Keep in mind if they want to see the expense side of thise than the FE team would need to start using those appeal codes as Transaction codes for FE data."

Any wisdom or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

  • Hi Amanda,

I have worked in Raiser's Edge for 20+ years, with some organizations that are integrated with FE.  I have never once been able to see - even with supervisor rights - expense information from FE.  If you give people access to FE, then of course they can see data along these lines.  But to be clear, if you only have access to RE, you will not see expenses that are tracked in FE.

I don't have a specific answer for how the transaction codes would work for you, but I would definitely recommend this upcoming webinar about integrating RE and FE:

Notifications about it just went out and the first one is tomorrow.  Seems perfectly timed for you!  Good luck!!
