'Assignments' on Bulletin Board

Hi there!

Not sure if I'm alone in experiencing this issue, but the 'Assignments' element on my course's Bulletin Board doesn't seem to be working. I assume it's supposed to display assignments that have been published and added to the Gradebook, but whether I select active, expired, or future I see nothing. Is this a glitch, or am I mistaken?

Thanks in advance for your input!

  • Hi, Moe.

Per customer support, this is a known bug.  I have a case pending on it as well.  No known fix at the current time.

  • Appreciate you letting me know, Geoffrey. Let's hope it's resolved soon!

    Be well,

  • Hi all, development researched this and apparently it never worked, it was functionality that was never completed and was inadvertently released. We are rolling it back as there is discovery that would need to be done in order for us to know how to resolve the needs of that feature. However, assignments does work in Topics hopefully schools can move to using that feature instead until if/when we can determine the why for having similar functionality from bulletin boards. If you have additional input on why using Topics for this wouldn't be a viable solution for your school please reach out and I can set up a call to discuss if needed. Thanks for your help.
  • While our 6-12 grade students have always used assignments, our 4th and 5th grade students will be using Assignments for the first time this fall. It would be helpful if teachers could pull assignments on to their Bulletin Boards since this is also is where our students go for their Zoom links and daily "News" posts identifying what is going on for the day.
  • Hi Nancy, we recommend as best practice that bulletin boards are used for 'general' class information like welcome messages, class rules, things that aren't specific to lessons and units but that span the whole year. More like general resources if you will. Topics has the functionality of being able to manage units and include assignment lists, discussions etc. and so is intended to be the place where the teachers and students would manage the coursework. It also has the ability to publish materials (widgets) on certain dates and times so you can control the roll out of the unit materials better. We likely will not be replicating those functionalities on bulletin board.
  • We also noted shortly after training that the assignment widget for the bulletin board does not function.

Related, but slightly different problem: there is no way I can find to sort assignments in the assignment widget I put on a topic board, and it is not sorting them by assignment title, due date, assigned date, or any other pattern I can find.  So even if I put a list of that topic's assignments on the topic board, they show up in a completely unsortable and nonsensical order over which I have no control.

You can sort the assignments in the dialog box where you checkbox assignments to include, but that sorting does not carry to the actual widget-- it only allows you to find the assignments to checkbox by sorting them.  However, in the dialog box where I checkbox assignments to include in the topic widget, if I try to sort them by due date, the system actually doesn't even do that!  It sorts them alphabetically using the due dates as alphabetical values.  So my assignment due dates appear in the following order:

    9/1/2020

    9/11/2020

    9/15/2020

    9/16/2020

    9/2/2020

    9/20/2020

    9/25/2020

    9/3/2020

    9/30/2020

    9/4/2020

    9/8/2020

    9/9/2020

    10/1/2020

    10/10/2020

    10/2/2020

This problem does not happen in the assignment center or the assignments list for a class-- there it truly sorts them by due date (9/30, 10/1, 10/2, 10/3 etc.).  But in this one area, the dialog box where you checkbox assignments to be included in a topic widget, it sorts them alphabetically USING the due date (9/30, 10/1, 10/11, 10/2, 10/22, 10/3, etc.).

I don't begin to know how they would go about fixing either of these issues, but they should definitely be fixed (the appearance in the widget much higher priority than the dialog box glitch).
  • Hi Aaron Gregory‍ the sort should have been fixed in this morning's release, the assignments I believe are sorting by due date now. If you are still not seeing that let me know. thanks!
  • They are now sorting properly both in the assignment selection dialog box AND in the widget as it appears on the actual topic board!  That's going to allow me to skip a lot of reposting I was doing!  Thanks for taking care of that, and so quickly!
