Entering a gradebook icon (I,L,M,X) for an assignment results in a 0 being entered as a grade

An interesting new behavior in the gradebook (or is it grade book?) - if a teacher adds a gradebook icon to an assignment, it result in a 0 being entered for the grade - no matter the icon. If the icon is removed and re-entered, the grade remains blank as was the case previously. I am just curious as to if this was an intentional change by Blackbaud as I do not recall seeing anything in the release notes. I would call support but I am working remotely and do not have the number.

  • Interesting. Thanks for pointing this out, Scott Chrysler‍ . Definitely not something I had noticed yet. I just tried it out in my test class and am noticing the same thing. A "0" is automatically entered regardless of the notation. If you delete the 0 and notation and then do it again, it doesn't put the "0" back in. Also, if the assignment had a numeric grade, like "10", and the grade is removed and then the notation added, it doesn't put a "0". It seems like it's only the first time SOMETHING is put in the gradebox. I'll definitely be reaching out to support about it. (I always just submit a support ticket through case central. Calling takes way too much time.
  • Thanks Megan Day‍ just saw it come up from support, we'll get it looked at as soon as we can!

Hi Angie Addison‍ - support said that by adding the M in the cell it should result in a 0.

    Hi Angie Addison‍ any update?
  • Hi Bryan Lorenzo‍ we have it in our next sprint which starts next Wednesday. So it should be in the release following that. On your comment about support saying that missing should automatically enter a grade of 0, that didn't sound like something we had put in place to me. I reached out to support and the transcript of that incident doesn't mention that. If you have the support response and want to forward it to me I can look into it further.
