How did your organization share the data breach? What was the feedback from your patrons?

I'm curious how other orgs handled this situation. What did you do? How did donors respond overall?

  • We sent an email to everyone in our constituent database that was added before 6/1. Then any members/donors from the last 5 years that do not have an email got a letter mailed to their home. We had a lawyer for our organization look at the letter before it was sent out. We mentioned what information was compromised and which information was not. We also added a link of where a donor could go to monitor their information. Overall, we have not had too many people reach out for the amount of people that received the communication. We've had the 'I am angry' response but we have also had the 'I am sorry this happened to you' response.
