Course selection Process - Course Requsts

Hello,


I would like to know how others handle their course requests when you are limited by what you would like to check, for example if I want to check if a student is qualified to take AP Government and have it show up as a course request I would need to check the following requirements:


Minimum average of 88 is US History I HH and US History II AP and a Minimum average of 90 in either English H or HH

or

Minimum average of 90 in US History HH and US History H and a Minimum average of 90 for English H or HH and a PSAT ERW score of 630 and passing a departmental test.  


I am just throwing in the most complex thing I can think of but you get the idea you would need AND/OR logic and parentheticals to do it.  


However I know I am not able to check this in the system so I will have to go with teacher recommendation in order to only have the course show for the students that meet the pre reqs.  I would like to know 1) if any one has found a way around it in the system 2) If not what do you do.

    I agree that the logic in this is limited. I have another problem, which is that we have semester-long classes, so I would like to say AP Calculus BC requires an A- in Honors Precalculus in the fall, or and A- in Honors Precalculus in the spring, but it doesn't allow me to use the two grade plans for the same course.

    So I have resorted to requiring a teacher recommendation for classes that follow in a sequence (Math, core Science, World Languages above level 3)

    For less restricted classes, mainly in Arts and Humanities, or honors level electives in STEM, I just choose one of the requirements that I think is the best indicator and use that. Then I run the list of requests by each department and have them approve or deny (we only have 350 students so it's feasible to do this).

    I guess you could use the "any of the following" in the prerequisites tab and make sure they're at least meeting one of the requirements? At our school, recommendations are the job of the teachers/department chairs, and I then enter those as recommended courses in the students' course requests. If I wanted to check prerequisites as you described, I would do it all in an excel spreadsheet. You can do anything in excel!

    The minimum grade prerequisites in course requests never work for us because course selection starts in April, and we don't have final grades until June.

    Oona,  I have that problem too because I need to be able check a exam grade to go with the semester average.  So I feel you pain.
