Is there a way to add relationship types?

I work at a boarding school, and I'm looking for an easy way to look up who a student's roommate is. Back in the days of Education Edge, we had a relationship type called roommate, but we don't appear to be able to add relationship types in Core. Am I missing something? Are there any other boarding school peeps out there who can tell me how you deal with roommates? Thanks!

  • Hi Kate,

Sorry, at this point relationship types are prescribed by the system.  This is in part because we have extra logic built in because we can accurately identify parents and siblings.

There is an idea for this you might vote on for roommates

And to make it more customizable:

  • Could you work around it by using a custom field that you could populate with room number or even room mate. Not as clean for sure.
  • Unfortunately, there is no way to add relationship types in the K12 solution. I do see that there is already an idea in the ideabank asking for a roommate relationship type. To see a list of the relationship types available to you, you can find those in Core > Users > User profile settings on the Relationship types tab.

The only suggestion I would have would be to possibly activate a relationship type you are not currently using (perhaps Friend) and use that to define the roommate relationships. I apologize that I do not have a more elegant solution.
