Campaign set up best practices

I am interested in best practices in setting up a new campaign in RE. When I started my position, we were working with consultants who suggested not to have too many "Campaigns" in RE so we currently only have Capital and Annual. Capital was used to track a past campaign. We are now entering a new capital campaign should I add a new campaign record to track the gifts? Ideas for naming conventions in RE (2021 Capital ??) I've seen some older posts that suggest not using dates to name campaigns? Any suggestions would be most helpful. Thank you!

  • Hi Suzanne,
I have been recently reviewing how we deal with campaigns as
in the past we have set up our capital campaigns by year in order
to see the fiscal goal progress which always posed the problem of
then having to create more queries or select more options to review
    our progress.

After long searching I recently attended a webinar where the
presenter (my apologies I do not remember his name) suggested a
best practice for campaigns is to include the year in the naming
structure for Annual campaigns, where funds may go to many
    different funds.

Capital Campaigns however should be based on the overall goal
of your campaign as many capital campaigns will span several years
    to complete.

    Same goes for Endowments.

I have thus proceeded with his suggestions and it works much
better for us to have an answer ready when evaluating our
    overall campaign goals.

Let me know what you think.
