Extra Gift using payment information from Recurring Gift

Hello! I'm working on converting our recurring gifts from database view to NXT. I started with a small batch, but it has brought up the question of charging an extra gift with the payment information we have on file from their recurring gift. I know how to do it in database view. However, I am unsure if that will work for those in NXT, especially if they're been updated or created in NXT.


Is there a way to charge an extra gift to what's on file in NXT? Or, if we update payment information in NXT, will I be able to access that to charge an extra gift in database view?

    Hi Megan - Once a recurring gift is promoted to NXT, the credit card information no longer appears on the corresponding gift record database view. It looks like unless you have the credit card information stored somewhere else as well (i.e. Bio2/Org2 tab) it is unlikely that you will be able to use it charge an additional gift. You may want to double-check with support, to make sure this is right.

    I've had the same question! Sometimes we have donors that call and want to make a special gift in addition to their regular monthly gift. And then we have the occasion where someone's monthly gift failed to process, and they want to make an extra "catch up" payment to cover any missing month(s) of donations. We've had a variety of work arounds, but being able to use the information on file to seamlessly process an additional transaction would certainly be helpful. Of course, I believe there would need to be adequate controls in place to ensure someone doesn't fraudulently charge a donor's card, so that could be a bigger issue?
