Wildcard Search MISSING`

I feel a real lack at a very elementary level. And it's made much worse, believe it or not, in the year(s) of COVID.

Why can't we do a wildcard search EVERYWHERE?!?

We have 1,500+ students, so noone knows all their names.

So if I need to find a student whose last name is Veitia, unless I spell it PERFECTLY in many places [like people finder(s), scheduling, and many others], I don't find him.

However, one place where I *can* use wildcarding is in student Grade management. I can do "Ve%t%", where it'll match "Ve" + <any characters> + "t" + <any characters>

So, in order to find a kid in, say, scheduling, I need to LEAVE scheduling, go to grading, do the wildcard seach, note the spelling, then go back to scheduling.

Where does COVID fit in? Well, in order for our teachers to be able to take attendance in a hybrid world [in-person/remote], we need to prefix every student with their "cohort" name, which indicates which day they are to show up for in-person instruction. This means that EVERY search for a student becomes as many as FOUR searches.

e.g. even if I new how to spell "Veitia", I have to try "B_Veitia", and if that doesn't work, "G_Veitia", and if that doesn't work, ....you get it.

IF there was wildcarding CONSISTENTLY through the system, all I would have to do is enter "%Veitia"

Forgetting the inconsistency problem throughout this system, in this case, I gotta believe that a change like this is LOW HANGING FRUIT for BB.

  • There's the Ideas Bank.... check it out and suggest it if it's not already there, vote for it if it is. I work in a different spectrum of software, but that sounds ridiculous to me and extremely frustrating!
