Password repository

We have a number of system accounts needed for business processes that several different people know several different passwords. We would like to implement a secure repository where we can store the passwords and accounts so no one on my team has to scramble and waste time looking for what password goes to what account especially if the person who knows a password is on vacation. Can anyone recommend a program or a system you use to do something like this?

  • Hi, I'm assuming you're referring to storing credentials for applications and/or processes outside of Blackbaud CRM. Our IS team has a password vault (basically a Lastpass or 1Password application). Also we limit the number of system/service accounts in use. We prefer to have user accounts that connect users (via MFA/SSO, etc.)

For Blackbaud CRM our sys admins can use the login as user feature if needed.

  • Just echoing Chris, we've been using lastpass for years and it's really worked well. It works for things outside of CRM as well which might be useful. Storing things like certificates, pub/private keys for authentication, etc. etc. It does a lot. It also works well for teams. You can create shared passwords where everyone on the team has access and if anyone leaves the organization, it'll allow you to remove them.

We also use the “run as user” functionality. It works very well for us.
