Anonymous Gifts

This is a very elementary question for all of you, but my org is new to fundraising with donors. We had a donor give through the donation form that's integrated with NXT, and she chose to give anonymously. However, she did give her name and contact info. I know that we should consider her gift as anonymous when reporting externally, but how should I go about sending a tax letter? I feel like since she gave enough info, that I should still send it.

Absolutely what @JoAnn Strommen said. You should definitely send a thank you to the donor, but you would publicly only acknowledge them as anonymous.

  • Thank you both! @Dariel Dixon and @JoAnn Strommen Makes perfect sense to me.

  • On the database view side of RE life, there's a checkbox on the Bio 1 tab that will help accomplish this for your reporting. Also, if you have a special addressee or salutation for “donor recognition name” that you're already using, you can have your choice for these donors read as “Anonymous” rather than listing their name.
