Conduct placeholder to use Nickname and if no nickname exists then First name - is it possible?

Does anyone know if this is possible to do?
In the Conduct Notifications email setup, there are placeholders for Student First Name and Student Nickname. However, you have to select them individually. I would like for the system to use Nickname if they have one and if not then First name.

    We add the first name into the nickname field on the contact card, when no nickname is given, so we can always use nickname when available.

    In the user name options, there is a way to update the user name format. I believe by default, it is set to [First name] “[Nickname]” [Middle name] [Last name]

    There is another placeholder field you can use which is the [Nickname|First name] field, which will use a nickname if there is one, and if no nickname exists then it will use the first name. This allows us to avoid adding first name to nickname.
