Capping Sections

I am looking for a solution to capping individual course sections. In course setup you can create caps for the entire course for scheduling purposes but sometimes I particular sections of a course to be smaller.

    I'm not sure it's possible to automatically cap enrollment for individual courses. I know the automated scheduler will not put more students in a class than spaces designated in course settings, but if you are manually enrolling students I believe you will be allowed to go over that maximum set in course settings.

    One thing you could do is create an admin-only custom field to attach to the course section itself to identify max enrollment, so whoever is enrolling students in that course would be able to double check they have not exceeded the max.

    If you do still want to use the automated scheduler to enroll students in classes, one thing you could try would be to implement course requests (this can be done internally without actually having students/parents request courses) and then work in batches approving the correct number of students at a time, but that may be a lot more labor intensive than necessary.
