NXT / OLX / Donation Forms - recurring gifts

Does anyone have an example of an NXT or OLX Donation form where:

1 - Once submitted, the gift is set to automatically recur annually on the submission date

and

2 - The form allows for the inclusion of at least 2 gift attributes.

Bonus points:

3- How can I load up the form so it contains a custom “referral code”? (ideally that might end up as a fundraiser constituent id but I'll take it in an attribute or wherever is possible)

I can't seem to figure out #2 & #3 with the NXT Donation forms and I can't seem to figure out #1 on the OLX Donation form.

Hellllp?

Thanks everyone ?

Hi @Kevin Hardy - I would recommend you use an OLX form for this. While question 1 would not be automatic immediately, you can ‘promote’ the new recurring gift to NXT converted to an automated recurring gift. Once promoted, the gift will be processed automatically.

  • Hi Austen!

I see that I can promote the OLX Donation to automatically be processed, but I don't see where I can set up the recurring dates so it'll always be “Annual” upon the submission date. It seems that I'm only given the options of preconfiguring the specific month and day that the next donation will be processed.

I toyed with this idea but it looks like if I preconfigured it for “January 1st” then anyone who tried to make an “annual” donation today (11 / 22) would have another donation processed in a little over a month? Or am I (hopefully) misunderstanding how that works?

I would recommend you set up multiple processing dates; e.g. December 1, January 1, February 1, etc. That should give donors an option to choose the month that works best for them. If someone goes through the process to create a recurring gift, they would not be charged for their annual donation until recurring gift runs (processing date).

  • Hi,

With OLX forms you can customise them to do things like - take parameter from the page link and put it in a custom field on the form, then hide that field from the end user. The data therefore reaches RE and yet the donor does not see the field. We do loads of that sort of work for clients so just get in touch if needed.

In terms of automating the recurring gift as well we have done this previously:

    - You add the various recurring options Dec 1, Jan 1, Feb 1 etc. to the form

    - We automatically choose the next '1st' i.e. for now it would be Dec 1

    - We hide that from the donor so they don't even see the question

Upshot is they will always start their gift on the 1st of the next month. You can complicate this more by adding options for the 15th of each month too if you want it to be the nearest 15th or 1st... etc. Basically a lot of options for OLX forms.

Unfortunately currently NXT forms are not so customisable.

One final thing is we can automatically convert those recurring gifts for you using out tool - SmartSYNC - if you don't want to have to manually promote them.

If any of the above is of interest then contact the team support at smartthing.org... Happy to help if we can. Just to be clear we are Blackbaud partners and have been doing this sort of custom work for years!

    Cheers

    Hi Warren -

Can you share any URLs of OLX gift pages you've done that automatically “choose the next 1st” but also hide that option? (it would be so much easier if that logic in the back-end configuration). I just want to share with the rest of the team to say “Check out what they've done here…” before figuring out the best way to move forward.

It's definitely sounding like OLX is the best way to go due to it's flexibility in customization.

  • Hi,

I'll try and dig out a link for that recurrence date customisation and PM you, it was a while back that one. If you just want to show them that you can customise OLX we have some live demos:

Address lookup: https://www.smartthing.org/demo/smartzip-olx/ (see the 'Find my address:')

Pledging using Monthly amounts: https://www.smartthing.org/smartrecurring/ (instead of entire pledge amount)

    Even a full store: https://www.smartthing.org/smartstore/

There are loads on our website https://www.smartthing.org/raisers-edge-applications/#online

    Cheers

  • Thanks Warren! I appreciate the examples of what is possible when customizing OLX donation forms.
