Classification

Curious as to how people are using “classification” on the Prospect Management panel in NXT. Currently for us it is kind of a dead field. Just wondering what the value in it may be.

  • Most folks use Prospect Classification to describe what kind of prospect a constituent is. For example, are they a Major Gift Prospect? Planned Giving Prospect? Leadership Circle Prospect? It definitely depends on your organization and how you fundraise, but it's nice to have that field to help you narrow down how you classify prospects in order to filter, assign, etc.

I know there are some high-powered teams who divide up their Classifications by tiers, or have institution-specific Classifications. But I like using the field in the above way because it combines nicely with and doesn't overlap with Prospect Status.

  • We use Classification as another way to indicate the record as a individual, corporation, small business or a foundation. Then under that, we use the status to indicate where the record is in the prospect pipeline.
