Withdrawn student who wants to return next year

We have a couple of students who are withdrawing for the remainder of this school year but want to re-enroll and receive a contract for next year. What are the steps you take in EMS to handle this? (A possible complication… I should add that their parents want to continue receiving school communications while their child is withdrawn.)

  • We withdraw the student for the current year and then go to Enrollment Management and create record to reapply for the next year. You can then request/waive any documents you need on your checklist to get them to Admission Committee to offer contract.

  • Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, there are a couple ways to do this. Sandra's way is the cleanest and probably preferred method. The only issue you will have with her method is that the parents would probably not be included in communication since they are now “parent of past student” or parent of Incoming Student," and you probably don't include those two groups in your normal, day to day school communications. If the parents receiving school communication is super important, then you could just leave them as a student, but it is a little convoluted. The main difficulty here is that it throws your actual student numbers off temporarily. You could leave them as a student and just withdraw them from their classes. I would then go into the progression and add a depart date for the last day they were on campus. The depart date should provide the documentation needed to show the dates they were actually on campus (if it ever is questioned due to a legal matter). Since the student is still current, you can just have them sign your normal re-enrollment contract, and the parents would still receive communication sent to whole school or grade specific groups. The only other thing you would need to do is add an enroll date set to the first date of school for the 22-23 academic year to show that they restarted on campus again. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

@Eleanor Rizzo, our entry points for admission are in 6th and 9th grade. If we have a student leave to another school after 6th grade and then want to return for 9th grade, they need to reapply as we have limited spots for 9th grade.

If we have a student leave for a year or two due to the family moving out of the state or the country due to a parent's job and they gave us notice they intend to return, we wouldn't have them reapply. Instead, we would make them a student again for a week or so for them to be able to complete a contract.
