Adding Requirements to Assignments

Hello. I was wondering if Blackbaud has a plan to add an option that allows teachers to add requirements for students to access an assignment. During this time of COVID-19, we want to ensure that students are benefitting from all our instructional videos and activities/work. By adding a requirement, we help students to understand accountability and self-management. They can only move on if they have attempted and mastered the concepts. We also want them to attempt the assignment once they have watched or completed the prerequisite work. Is Blackbaud planning on adding such an option or capability on their LMS? The assigning requirements, we are ensuring that students are mastering prior concepts before moving on.

*I know there's an option on the setting on who can view the assignments. It would be great if the assignment can be seen but cannot be accessed unless the requirement has been met so we don't have to manually add students as it is time-consuming especially in a dynamic classroom where students are getting work done.

  • I'm not sure if there is an automatic way to manage this, but you can assign work to specific students and alternatively only assign certain work when prerequisites have been completed. This is obviously more manual work than what you described though. Please post a link here if you decide to submit an idea through the ideas portal - I'd love to vote on a feature like this! :)

  • I am currently manually adding students who can view the lessons but that takes a long time. Also, it does not allow students to see what lessons they have ahead of them. Thank you for suggesting that I add this to the Ideas page. I am currently doing that now.

  • Yes, you can assign something for specific students. It is towards the bottom near the dates for the assignment when you create it.

  • Hi Sara. Yes, I use that but it is time-consuming as I have to constantly go in and edit it manually. Especially if students are at different places in their learning. So it would be great if we can set the assignment to just turn on and be accessible automatically so we teachers don't have to manually change this on the setting everytime a student progresses.

  • Thanks for sharing, @Rozaleth Tenga ! I'd recommend checking out our Ideas forum to see if this has been recommended already, or if not, to add the idea yourself. I can certainly understand what you're going for: self-paced assignments that “unlock" for students based on what they have or haven't already completed.

  • Added on the Ideas page ?
