NXT Recurring Gifts

Over the past few months we have been transitioning our monthly recurring gifts into the NXT automated recurring gifts. Does anyone know how to pull a list of what gifts are tagged as NXT Recurring Gifts? I know it sounds obvious, but I can't find a criteria that is unique to NXT Recurring as opposed to Recurring in general. Thanks!

The field “NXT Gift?” will indicate automated recurring gifts. See the kbase:

As explained in this kbase, you have to use Export as the field doesn't show in Query:

    1. Apply this query to a gift export and output the 'NXT Gift?' field .

The 'NXT Gift?' output field in a gift export in a Yes/No indicator which you can use to determine which recurring gifts have been converted to NXT Automated Gifts.

Thanks Elizabeth - I knew there had to be something buried in there somewhere!

  • Hi Aldera,

I am looking into this option for my organization as well. Right now we manually charge cards 4x a month. It would be great to convert them to automatic. Could you share more how this has gone for you? How much has this changed your processes? Specifically even on the backend of balancing? Feel free to email me as well - alisa@watoto.us

    Thankss!

    Hi Alisa,

I can't recommend it enough. It is just great to have them charge automatically and then when you are ready to deal with them, there is a batch sitting in NXT for you to approve. If gifts are declined, they are in that batch as $0 gifts, which makes them easy to spot and deal with. The only process change for me is that I now calendarize to remember to check for a pending batch in NXT. No real difference for us on balancing - they just come in on BBMS reports as with other gifts. They are all mixed together on BBMS reports if you process other online gifts that same day, but that doesn't impact how we reconcile. Over the last two years we have added a significant number of recurring donors, and it's no greater workload, which is nice.

  • In NXT help, search knowledgebase for “Automate Manual Recurring Gifts”. That should give you the info you need. We automated our manually recurring gifts when we moved to NXT last year. It's very simple. The gift batches when processed will show up in Gift Management (Fundraising tab). It's great not having to worry about the manual processing.

  • Thank you! How do you deal with the declines? For us, we usually retry 1 week later and 1 month later. Do you move them to an Exception batch? That is the part we're trying to figure out for our processes and what that looks like.

  • Thank you, thank you!! I was wondering what you do with declines? When it shows up $0, then what? Also, if they smart retry before you Approve any batches, are they in 2 batches? The declines and exception batches are what's getting me.

I leave them in the batch so that when you hit “Approve” they are entered as a 0 gift. Not ideal perhaps, but I have a standing query to search for Gift Type is Recurring-Cash and Amount is 0 so I can pull them out. We wait 1 week and retry, then contact the donor. You retry them by a button that is on the gift - and the gift will tell you the decline reason so you can immediately see if it's a lack of funds (we retry) or other error (we immediately call donor.). But key here is that you have to approve the batch to have that Retry button work, so you could put them in another batch, but… for us that doesn't add anything to the process except an extra step. :)

  • Thanks for letting me know. Do you have a process of declines then? How many retires do you give them and then at what point do you follow up? I think we have around 9,000+ recurring gifts so sometimes declines can be 100/month.
