Prospect Reports - the way it looks

Is there a way to change the way the Prospect Reports in Research Point look? I know how to change what information shows on the report, but my question is about how it looks. I have a template in Microsoft Word that I copy and paste (and/or re-type) the information from the ResearchPoint Prospect Reports to, combined with what I find while Googling, just so I can have it in a better looking format to make it easier for my Team, but it's time-consuming. I am trying to crank out a bunch of prospect profiles and it's become time-consuming.

They recently saw some sample reports from DonorSearch and iWave and were really impressed, but my takeaway is it was pretty much the same data just shown in a prettier format. Just wondered if I was missing something.

  • I'm really curious about what DonorSearch reports they saw - we've been using DonorSearch for years and my biggest frustration with it is that it does NOT have a well-formatted print report. IWave's is better, but so is ResearchPoint.

  • To answer your question, there is no ability to alter the ResearchPoint report aesthetics outside of adding your logo and moving the sections around on the report. I do agree that DonorSearch does a slightly better job in the look of the report. How the data comes out on the reports, I've got mixed feelings for both ResPt and DS, and honestly am not really happy with either of them. That being said, I do the same as you and have separate Word templates that I use to copy and paste screenshots and data, and of course other prospecting info I find elsewhere.

Also to compare the data from both systems, I have always felt ResPt does a much better job finding real estate assets. Recently, however, I'm not sure if their sources have changed, but it's not as accurate as it used to be. DonorSearch's real estate section is truly my biggest frustration in my work life. But, I do like DS charitable and political giving data, perhaps even better than ResPt. ResPt allows you to export data via Excel. DonorSearch does not do this, and it is very annoying.

Never worked in iWave, but I got a glimpse of it years ago via demo. And I have worked with WealthEngine also. Both do have nicer looking reports, I'll give you that, but I recall having issues with some of the data. So in my mind none of the wealth databases are perfect unfortunately.

  • Thank you so much Jennifer. It's reassuring to know that I am not the only one copying and pasting into a separate template, it just takes so much time when trying to crank out a bunch of prospect profiles.

I agree with what you've said in regards to the other platforms. I also liked DonorSearch's political giving but was frustrated by the real estate as well. I guess every platform has its pros and cons and you just have to pick what's best for your org and move forward. It just gave me pause when my supervisor emailed me sample profiles from other platforms. They looked so fancy, but that is exactly what I told her, that it's just about the same data just presented in a different way.

Thank you again. It's helpful to know there is no one perfect solution.
