Can you pull mailing labels from Altru so you don't have to manually write each one out?

We pulled a report for all pasted donors to send them cards and now need to know if there is a way to pull all their mailing addresses to print and put on envelopes.. or if this is not an option. Hundreds of names and no time to write each one out. Thanks!

  • Export the list to Excel and do a mail merge in Word.

  • Hi @Alexandria Fife!

I agree with John's suggestion. That would work.

You can also do it through the Appeals tool. You'd create and Appeal and a Letter. You'd base the recipients of the letter on a Selection/Query. You don't actually need to format the letter in Altru. You're just using the Appeal tool to output to a spreadsheet with the merge fields you are interested in. From their you can do a mail merge in Word like John mentioned.

One nice thing about the Appeals tool is that you can determine what to do with households. Should all members of the household (that are in your Selection) receive the letter? Or you can choose to just send to one member of the household (which, I believe, should be the head of household - presuming they pull into your Selection).

Chris and John are spot on.

Leverage the CSV output of the mailing to generate the labels.

Another advantage of the Appeals process is that it makes it so much easier to accommodate Solicit Codes and then also adds the communication instance on the constituent record. This makes it easier to follow up on those recipients if needed in the future. ?

  • Did you ever get an answer on this? Trying to figure this out as well.

  • You can look at the other answers for some suggestions to try but I ended up just manually making my own list since I was trying to pull specific people.

  • If you're looking to be able to pull for a very specific list, and there isn't common criteria to build a query, you could use an import selection which just creates a selection based on constituent ID. I find this is helpful if I started with a list from Altru and have made changes to it, so I can upload the final list back into the system rather than trying to make adjustments to my query to match. This could then be run against an export definition, or through an Appeal like others have suggested.

Here's a knowledgebase article about how to create import selections - it's for BBCRM but it works the same way in Altru.

Thanks Ruth! Friendly reminder that the Altru user needs to have the “Import Selections” credential to set up selection imports. This is a separate, specific credential that is not bundled in other credentials.
