Course Selections Print-Outs

You can use a SKY list to get a report of all requests and export it to a CSV. That will make it easier for you to see the requests for all students, but it doesn't make it easy for you to send each student a list of what they have.

Academics > Reporting > Manage Lists > Build a new list > Requests and Recommendations List.

You can set the filters and columns as needed, and then export to CSV.

During the time that you have the Requests sign-up window open, students and parents can see the current state of their requests online. We use the window's dates (Academics > Scheduling > Requests and schedules > Course request setup) along with permissions in the Student and Parent roles to control what students and parents can do and see.

We pre-fill some requests and mark them as Required. That prevents the student from removing them. (The pre-selected courses include the next English and History courses, based on current course enrollment.)

Some academic departments make recommendations for the next course. That process will start next week, so our Requests window begins this Saturday. We don't want students or parents to see anything until sometime in early April, so I change the settings in the Student and Parent roles (Core > Security > Roles > Student > Tasks). The Online Signup section has separate permissions to edit and view requests.

We give students and parents View access from mid-April to the end May. We also give students Edit access from mid-April to sometime in early May (when they actually submit their requests).

After we turn off the editing ability for students, the requests are reviewed and modified as needed (to deal with obviously incorrect requests, lack of prerequisites, etc). The student and parent then get an email asking them to review the modified list of requests online.

This year, we will use the online course requests for incoming students and their parents. The process will be the same, but with a different set of dates.

There is a report under Academics>Reporting>Reports>Online Signup called “Courses - Requested/Approved/Enrolled” that will allow you to run a full report for each student. Just use the filter for New Page Per Student when you run it. You can only do this per term, though. To generate a full year report that is distributed to students, I run 1st Quarter (start of 1st semester) to print on one side and 3rd Quarter (start of 2nd semester) to print on the back side.

There are other useful course request reports under that section as well!
